Waste

The consultancy team, led by Environ and including CAG Consultants and MVA Consulting, are responsible for carrying out the sustainability appraisal of the Waste Core Strategy and Site Allocations Plan (known as the Waste Development Documents or WDDs). These documents will guide waste planning in the County and identify potential sites for waste related activities.

Scoping

Sustainability appraisal involves testing the documents against an agreed set of economic, social and environmental criteria throughout the preparation process. Deciding what these criteria should be is the first stage of sustainability appraisal, and is known as 'scoping'.

The scoping of sustainability issues for waste planning in Bedfordshire and Luton has been completed following a review of a range of relevant strategy documents and other economic, social and environmental information within the region. In addition, a scoping workshop involving a wide range of stakeholders was held on 17 May 2007 and a number of completed scoping questionnaires were returned to us. This information has been drawn together in the Scoping Consultation Report, which can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.

Scoping Consultation Report

The information from the scoping consultation report has been fed into the Waste Development Framework Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report, which can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.

Issues and Options

Bedfordshire County Council have published their Issues and Options Paper for the Waste Development Documents. The paper has been divided into two parts. The first sets out policy issues, which will be used to inform the Core Strategy Document. The second part of the paper sets out a portfolio of potential new sites for waste management facilities. These sites have been nominated by waste operators and landowners in the County, and there is no presumption at this stage whether or not any particular site is suitable or otherwise for future waste management facilities. The Council would like your opinions on both the policy issues and the potential sites. To view the paper and have your say, visit "Have your Say - Consultations" at www.bedfordshire.gov.uk.

Sustainability Appraisal Workshop

Sustainability appraisal of the issues and options, and the sites put forward, is being carried out. As part of that process, a series of public consultation workshops were held around the County during October-November 2007. A summary of the findings from these workshops can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
